These two new notebooks both feature widescreen displays with a 16:9 aspect ratio and 55% wider viewing angle over average notebook. The HDX16 has 16-inch display and resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels, while the HDX18 has 18.4-inch display and resolution of 1920 x 1080.Both notebooks use an Intel Core 2 Duo P8400 processors, have 4GB of DDR2 RAM, Nvidia GeForce 9600M 512MB graphics and built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. HDX18 comes with a 320GB 5,400RPM hard disk drive and SuperMulti optical drive, and HDX18 comes with twin 250GB hard disk drives and a Blu-ray optical drive.
The HDX16 will be available later this month for $1249, as will the HDX18 for a price of $1549.

Jakarta - Asustek Computer memproduksi laptop murah meriah. Laptop ultra mobile ini pun direncakan hadir di Indonesia.
Di ajang Computex 2007 di Taipei, Asustek Computer bersama Intel Corp. memamerkan jajaran laptop murah yang dibandrol antara US$ 199 hingga US$ 299 atau sekitar Rp 1,8 juta sampai Rp 2,7 juta (US$1 = Rp 9.045. Sumber: detikcom).
Laptop mungil besutan Asus yang dinamai "Eee" (Easy to play, Easy to learn, Easy to work) ini, akan hadir juga di pasar Indonesia.
"Ya, laptop itu juga akan didistribusikan Indonesia, tapi kami belum bisa memastikan kapan, karena saat ini produk tersebut belum mass production," kata Willy Halim, Country Manager Asustek Computer Inc. Indonesia, saat dihubungi detikINET melalui ponselnya.
Sekilas, konsep Asustek mirip dengan laptop murah besutan Negroponte dari segi fungsinya. Namun hal itu tidak sepenuhnya diamini Willy.
"Kalau laptop kita sudah lebih seperti laptop beneran," kilah Willy.
Hal tersebut diperjelas Willy dengan membandingkan bahwa laptop Negroponte masih menggunakan tenaga engkol sebagai sumber tenaganya, sementara konsep Eee sudah layaknya laptop lain di pasaran, yang juga sudah dilengkapi dengan port USB, Ethernet dan Modem.
Asus Eee PC akan hadir dengan beberapa model, yaitu yang memiliki layar 7 inch (harga kisaran US$199) dan 10 inch (US$299). Laptop mini tersebut dilansir Willy akan sangat ringan, yaitu sekitar 1 Kg. Hal tersebut karena Asus Eee PC tidak dilengkapi dengan hard disk, melainkan NAND flash drive.
"Jadi lebih bisa mobile karena ringan dan kuat, jadi tidak perlu takut benturan hard disk dan lain sebagainya," tutur Willy.
Seperti yang dipaparkan di Computex beberapa saat lalu, Asus Eee PC akan ditanami Intel Mobile CPU dan Chipset, Intel NAND flash Storage, dan Intel Classmate PC Ready. Untuk OS, Linux menjadi pilihan Asus.
Bidik Tiga Segmen
Asustek menentukan tiga segmen berbeda yang akan jadi sasaran produknya di pasaran. Pertama adalah pasar pengguna laptop biasa. "Untuk mereka fungsi laptop ini sebagai second laptop, yang lebih membuat mereka mobile karena lebih tahan goncangan," tutur Willy.
Kedua, Asustek membidik konsumen pelajar dan mahasiswa yang juga membutuhkan komputer jinjing untuk melengkapi pembelajaran mereka. Menurut Willy, Asus Eee PC sudah dilengkapi dengan browser sehingga memungkinkan fungsi pembelajaran secara mobile.
Segmen ketiga adalah mereka yang ekstrim mobile. "Karena tidak dilengkapi hard disk, jadi tidak perlu takut guncangan yang berlebihan bahkan jatuh bagi mereka yang tidak terlalu hati-hati. Sebetulnya sama saja seperti PDA, tapi dengan konsep notebook," jelas Willy.
Jadi, kapan laptop Rp 2 juta tersebut akan didistribusikan di Indonesia? Tunggu saja tanggal mainnya.
